Higher Ground
Peter Scarbrow
HIGHER GROUND premiered on the FOX Family Channel on January 14, 2000, and ran for one season. Set in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. (and filmed in beautiful Vancouver, BC), the show was about at-risk teens who attended a special school in the wilderness. Joe Lando played the lead character of Peter Scarbrow, headmaster of the school and recovering addict who understood the challenges faced by the students.
Not only did Joe lead the cast, but he also served as Executive Producer, and the show skillfully and tenderly addressed such issues as addiction, tragedy, abuse, suicide, and gang membership, along with normal teen issues such as peer pressure, dating, and prom. The show also featured a romance for Joe’s character, Peter, with fellow staff member, Sophie (Anne Marie DeLuise). The ensemble cast included Hayden Christensen, Meghan Ory, A.J. Cook, Jewel Staite, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Kim Coates, Jodelle Ferland, and Kandyse McClure, who have all gone on to have successful careers. Filmography links courtesy of IMDb.
